Major redevelopment completed
The £20m redevelopment of the ground and lower ground floors of Cascades Shopping Centre, Portsmouth has been completed on time and to rave reviews. The new mall was opened by the Lord Mayor of Portsmouth Councillor Mike Blake at an official ceremony on 29th May 2007.
The partial redevelopment has replaced the sunken food court, several small shop units, part of the mall and a 49,000 sq ft Bhs store with a new first floor café gallery for the upgraded food offer in the Centre, a brand new Bhs, several larger shop units, a new mall and additional parking under a glazed roof. The new double height and wide curving mall with full height shop fronts is already partially let with shop fitters busy behind the hoardings.
This opportunity to improve the food and retail offer in Portsmouth City Centre will enable contemporary cafes and restaurants to entice busy shoppers and city centre workers to take a well earned break in stylish surroundings. Recent openings include Dorothy Perkins, Evans, Next, TK Maxx, Subway and The Fragrance Shop. We will be announcing more incoming retailers very soon.
The new BHS
Bhs have been associated with Cascades Shopping Centre since its inception and Tony Hatch, Head of Estates at Bhs, said “Whilst the Portsmouth store has always been a good outlet for us this new scheme provides us with an opportunity to achieve a modern efficient store with a better offer for our customers. The local catchment is very loyal and we welcome the proposals put forward by the Landlord to invigorate this already successful location”
